Planning a trip with young children can be both exciting and daunting. We embarked on a six-day journey to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with our two little ones—a three-year-old and a one-year-old infant. Planning and Bookings
- Visa Requirements:
Malaysia offers an eVisa facility for many nationalities, and we received ours within a day. The process was simple—requiring confirmed flight tickets, hotel bookings, a residence visa, and a bank statement. Additionally, submitting the MDAC arrival card electronically three days before arrival saved us significant time at immigration. - Flights:
We opted for Emirates’ direct flight to Kuala Lumpur. The flight was smooth, offering kids’ meals and toys to keep our children entertained. - Accommodation:
After comparing options on Expedia, Booking.com, and Agoda, we chose Platinum Suites near KLCC for its convenient location. Though amenities varied by host, our host Yemala provided excellent service. A tip: Keep in mind that housekeeping is not daily in most hotel apartments.
Day 1: Arrival and Settling In
After an overnight flight, we arrived in Kuala Lumpur early morning. Despite a long immigration queue, baggage collection was quick. We took an airport taxi for RM 120 to our accommodation at Platinum Suites.
The afternoon was spent resting and exploring Quill City Mall nearby. We stocked up on breakfast essentials and toiletries from the supermarket and ordered dinner via the GRAB app.
Day 2: A Day at Genting Highlands
Genting Highlands is a must-visit destination, and we planned our trip despite it being a public holiday. Booking cable car tickets through Klook saved us time. The ride offered breathtaking views of the rainforest, making the one-hour queue worthwhile.
We visited Skytropolis, an indoor theme park ideal for kids, and enjoyed the Winter Fest after 6 PM. A late dinner at Genting Premium Outlets capped off the day before heading back to our hotel.
Day 3: Exploring Zoo Negara
We spent the afternoon at Zoo Negara, home to lions, tigers, pandas, and more. The kids loved the Panda Conservation Center, which requires a specific ticket add-on. The hot weather made hydration essential, but the experience was rewarding.
Day 4: Bird Park and Pavilion Mall
The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park was another highlight, featuring diverse species like peacocks, parrots, and flamingos. We also enjoyed interactive experiences like photo opportunities with parrots.
In the evening, we explored Pavilion Mall, indulging in local cuisine at the food court. A rainy, pleasant walk back to our hotel made the day memorable.
Day 5: Petronas Towers and KLCC Park
We dedicated Day 5 to exploring the iconic Petronas Towers and the nearby KLCC area. Though tickets to the observation deck were sold out, we enjoyed the fountain show and the children’s play area in KLCC Park. A relaxing evening at Suria KLCC Mall concluded the day.
Day 6: Departure Day
We checked out late and headed to the airport in a GRAB taxi. Though the airport was crowded, access to The Travel Club Lounge via the Dragon Pass app provided a much-needed reprieve.
